The referendum isn’t about creating 3 or 4 chambers, it’s about abolishing the seanad. The maxim of first do no harm applies here. It’s far from perfect but abolishing it serves what immediate purpose exactly? All it does is remove a counterbalance to the dictate of the economic management council etc if it is abolished. Fine for the Left permanent oppositionists to favour its abolition but it does nothing constructive for democracy here and now to yield even more democracy to the inner circle.
