I’m not sure I understand that response. If the issue is power-sharing – which you suggest was supported by the ‘broad sweep’… mayhem doesn’t come in to it at all. It’s easy to determine support for power sharing from the March election. It was a minority of unionism that were willing to concede the point, as indeed was evident at all elections subsequently in contexts where power-sharing was an element of a proposed mix until we arrive at the GFA. As to Republicanism being against powersharing, that’s irrelevant to the issue at hand.
If you mean that you’re making some rule of thumb calculation and discounting x or y per cent of unionism because of the effects of armed struggle then we would be better off not having this discussion because that’s entirely subjective and unknowable.
