Great discussion. I did a history night class years ago. The teacher talked about visiting a museum of immigration in the U.S., I’m guessing in New York. She said there were artifacts there from lots of nationalities – carpenter’s tools belonging to a Swede, tailor’s kit belonging to a German, all kinds of stuff from various skilled tradespeople from across Europe. She saw nothing on display that was identified as belonging to an Irish immigrant. She talked to the curator or someone to ask why. And they said the Irish arrived with nothing, with no arse in their trousers.
So Enda can add that to his list – we’ve got Bono and U2, we came to America without an arse in our trousers and now we’re returning for the Gathering in designer tartan pants.
