The SP had a good article on it. http://www.socialistparty.net/comment/1193-what-lies-behind-direct-democracy-ireland I would love to see more on the rest of this populist melange showing where they share people and positions and where they do not.
I think a lot of the left bend to populism. Though obviously not to some of this strange brew. Frankly I think the turf cutters stuff is just populism. The ocals and EU elections will see as well as the old parties and us, the principled and variagated left, every looney and chancer try their luck.
