I’m not too sure where this argument is going, but is anyone paying attention to the fact that Ireland is very similair to Cyprus is that we have based our economic model on taking advantage of extreme capitalism with our corporate tax scheme. We’ve even had a supposed trotysite politician compaining that ULA weren’t doing enough to support our corporate tax policies (not too long before he made his excuses and departed), a fact that makes me very sceptical about how people posture. The unfortunate fact is that when it comes to perceived economic self interest, ideoligies seem to go out the window. Remember that Cyprus had a supposedly communist government not so long ago which didnt stop them from being a defacto Fianna Fail. so it’s easy to see the exact same thing happenin here. The nub question seems to me, how can we get out of this trap to build some sort of fairer international order? It’s not that easy trying to get people see beyond the end of their noses, sometimes they seem to retreat into a sort of schizo rhetoric, instead of taking real action. This is one of the reasons why I set my sights low (apart from knowing my own fallibillties too well), but it’s better to sight low and try to build something concrete I think, though nothing is permanent in this world
