You don’t need much `maths’ in the usual sense to be a very good programmer. Much of what I do for work is essentially applied maths, but much is programming, and they are two different things. If you flick through the classic book on algorithms and programming (Knuth’s), you find that much of the space is dedicated to such things as manipulating lists, not something you will find taught on an Honours Leaving Cert maths course.
