“Now, if only one of them was involved in Irish politics, or had a position, I don’t know, like a Government Minister, something that might influence the current coalition.”
I get the point obviously. But in the context of a situation where the Troika rules the scope for doing much by any possible Irish government is very constrained.Like the 30s the world system is bankrupting every country. Only a change of policy by the significant key players can end this “beggar my neighbour” policy. I would think say France under Hollande would love a stimulus policy but without agreement by especially the Germans they cannot do much. What teh above statement does represent is a shift from the austerity dogma. Alas, a small shift.
If low growth rates persists I see a Croke Park 4 and 5. Perhaps a breakuo of the Euro and a return to the punt here. Then massive inflation as the shops increase prices and thus even winning a pay increase will be a phyrric victory..
To repeat my main point. Only the key players on a world stage can change things.
