CMK,
The fact the capitalism is faltering everywhere from the center to the peripheries is obviously not a narrative that the establishment wishes to have period. Though we have on CLR had a discussion about this very issue (the false hopes and dashed expectations in the former Eastern bloc countries) back 2009 I believe.. I should also note that Romania joined three years after Hungary, with Bulgaria IIRC as I was in France at the time, so it’s not quite apples to apples for those two countries and what they were supposed to gain from EU membership at their respective times, but general point taken.. I guess I was thrown off by the “here” comment which I took to mean CLR specifically.
I don’t like Fidesz, but they aren’t fascist, Jobbik are fascist and a very real danger. Fidesz are leading the country down a black hole but so are all parties that subscribe to market supremacy, indeed there are some that preach against capitalism that would do the very same thing. Which brings us back Mr. Tamas, he complicates things for supporters of the market policies but he also discusses things that folks on the left have never really shown a fondness for addressing the issues that points out in his answer to the first question in the above interview. As a small historical footnote the same Arrow Cross torturers were kept on and saw an increase in activity under the Russians. An ironic twist of fate for many party faithful like Thomas’s parent’s friends.
